Learning the art of portrait paintings

Saturday, November 17, 2018

Our young artists recently completed a Visual Arts unit where they learnt how artists traditionally represented people in artwork - by critiquing and comparing various artworks, they developed art-specific vocabulary and demonstrated their strengths as reflective, critically-thinking students. They recognised portrait painting as a genre in art where the primary focus is on the human subject, before focussing on applying and honing their skills to create their own amazing portraits. Their work, which now proudly hangs on the walls in school, enabled students to identify how the face, expression, personality and even the inner essence of the model are often captured by the artist in a portrait.
