Student Agency: Voice, Choice & Ownership.
Student Agency means that students are actively involved in their education in the school and wider community. This can range from students choosing their own projects and influencing what direction a unit takes, to collaborating and organising community events. Demonstrating agency also means that our students will reflect on their learning, develop a growth mindset, and set academic goals as well as goals for improving their Approaches to Learning skills (ATL’s).
As an IB World School, we aim to provide all our learners – at all ages – with the agency to have a voice and choice in their education, and take ownership in that journey. Our learners are very much part of the community and get actively involved in it. The concept of Student Agency is rooted in the principle that all our learners have the ability and the will to positively influence their own lives and the world around them; it is about acting rather than being acted upon; shaping rather than being shaped; and making responsible decisions and choices rather than always accepting or following those determined by others.
